Unions Fight to Protect Injured Workers

WHEREAS:
It is understood that utilization review companies may delay or deny medical care prescribed by treating physicians and surgeons; and

WHEREAS:
It is understood that treating physicians and surgeons are licensed by the states in which they practice; and

WHEREAS:
It is understood that insurance companies may retain utilization review companies to approve, delay, or deny care prescribed by treating physicians; and

WHEREAS:
It is understood that utilization review companies may hire doctors without licenses in the states where they may delay or deny care; and

WHEREAS:
It is understood injured workers' and patients' rights are violated by the wrongful practices of utilization review companies.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That this convention declare that physicians working for utilization review companies reviewing the claims of injured workers be licensed in the states in which their decisions are used and where their decisions may influence the provision or denial of medical care to injured workers.
