WHEREAS:
The AFSCME 21st Century plan calls for the development of leadership and activism at every level; and

WHEREAS:
The younger members desire to play a role in the continued success of AFSCME; and

WHEREAS:
The best opportunity to build on the legacy of current leaders is now, while they are still available to serve as mentors; and

WHEREAS:
The institutional memory and history of the union we love should be taught to the younger members; and

WHEREAS:
It is imperative that AFSCME invest in its own future by developing its younger members for future service to the union.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That councils and affiliates within AFSCME are strongly encouraged to develop the Next Wave; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That AFSCME International make a firm commitment to provide staff time, financial resources, technological resources, convention time or other resources necessary to develop its younger members and the Next Wave henceforth.
