WHEREAS:

There is a constant and continuing attack on the rights of women in America; and

WHEREAS:

Women’s right to contraception has been challenged; and

WHEREAS:

Women’s right to abortion has been questioned; and

WHEREAS:

Women still make 81 percent of what their male counterparts do, while doing the same work; and

WHEREAS:

Of the 535 members of United States Congress, only 92 are women; and

WHEREAS:

If challenges to women’s rights are not answered, it will embolden the opposition, and result in further losses.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That AFSCME supports reviving the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA); and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:

            AFSCME lobby the United States Congress to pass an Equal Rights Amendment to the United States Constitution.
