Working People Mobilize on Day of Action

Working People Mobilize on Day of Action
By AFSCME Staff ·

Thousands of people participated in the Working People’s Day of Action this past weekend across the country, two days before the U.S. Supreme Court heard Janus v. AFSCME Council 31, a case aimed at eroding our basic freedoms. The case was brought by billionaires and corporate CEOs who have rigged the economic and political systems against the rest of us.

Among the freedoms under jeopardy is the freedom to come together in strong unions and fight the power structure that’s intent on keeping working people down.

We’re not taking this any longer.

Tens of thousands of working people in at least 30 cities took to the streets this past Saturday to demand an end to our nation’s rigged economy and political system. It happened in places like New York; Washington; Philadelphia; Chicago; Memphis, Tennessee, and many more. What follows is a gallery of images from Day of Action events from various cities and communities.

Working People's Day of Action

The activities of this past weekend – and on Monday, when the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the Janus case – were only the latest actions taken by working people to demand their freedoms. Throughout February, working people have been more energized and organized than at any time in recent memory. There were nationwide Moments of Silence to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the 50th anniversary of the 1968 Memphis sanitation workers’ strike. AFSCME is a key organizer of IAM2018 events nationwide to honor the 1968 strike.
