Budget Measure Attacks Working People Like You

The U.S. House has approved a budget measure that proposes massive cuts to programs and services and huge tax breaks for rich people and corporations.

The House’s budget outline would slash spending by $5.7 trillion over 10 years and gut Medicaid, Medicare, public education, transportation, veterans’ services and other programs. It would also raise the eligibility age for Medicare from 65 to 67 and cripple the Affordable Care Act.

But millionaires, billionaires and big corporations will get a windfall – tax cuts worth $5 trillion.

The Senate is expected to take up its own budget outline soon.

AFSCME Pres. Lee Saunders blasted the House’s Thursday vote.

“The cuts contained in this budget will be felt in very real and tangible ways by our communities. Every member of Congress who voted for this budget resolution today voted to degrade the basic quality of life for American working families,” Saunders said.
