Student Debt Resources

As a front-line public service worker, you’re keeping our country and economy running. The work you’ve taken on is serious and dangerous, adding considerable stress to you and your family’s life.

You may be wondering how to handle your student debt, which is a stressful topic even in regular times. Your union is here to help. AFSCME has partnered with student debt experts from Student Borrowers Protection Center (SPBC) and Summer to provide AFSCME members with information and resources to ease the burden of student debt during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The materials included here offer guidance on:

  • Federal and private loans.
  • New federal loan debt relief under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
  • Federal loan debt relief under income-driven repayment plans and the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
  • How to manage loans in default.
  • Much more!

For a limited time, AFSCME members have free access to Summer, an online platform to help you evaluate and apply for federal debt relief programs. Watch the student debt webinar below for additional information.
